Zespol Szkolno - Przedszkolny w Piatkowisku (Piatkowisko/Pabianice, Poland)
ur school name can be translated into English as School-Kindergarten Complex (Zespol Szkolno- Przedszkolny) and it comprises the kindergarten, primary school and (until June 2019) middle school classes. These are three separate levels of schooling. All the units are situated in a village, that is the kindergarten (kids aged 3 to 6) and primary school classes 1-3 (kids aged 6 or 7 to 10) are in the village of Zytowice, whereas the rest of primary school classes: 4 to 7 (students aged 10 to 13) and middle school classes (students aged 14 to 16) in the village of Piatkowisko. In total we have 445 students and 58 teachers at present. Piatkowisko and Zytowice are villages in Lodz voivodship, in the centre of Poland, with its nearest town of Pabianice. Public transport there is very limited so it also limits the access to cultural places such as the cinema, the theatre or municipal culture centres for the students. Therefore, the school is not only responsible for its compulsory curricula (for education and nurture), but it creates extra space for developing interests, through various projects, organizing local events, running school clubs or running extra activities for children during their winter or summer school- breaks. We wish we could run the project with older students, that is aged 12-16. For the youngsters, it is a unique opportunity to meet peers from other countries, get to know about their culture and every-day life . We would also like to include students with physical disabilities. We have already had some experience in international co-operation within the project entitled ‘With legends through Europe’ included in the programme : Comenius Lifelong Learning, in the years 2011-2013 (primary school) and “MASK” project within the same programme (Comenius Lifelong Learning), in the years 2013-2015 (middle school), The later of which was acknowledged as an example of good practice. The persons in charge of the project are the co-ordinator of the previous international projects: Boguslawa Groblewska-Durajska with the English teacher: Marzena Muszynska , and Polish and Literature teacher: Beata Jaksa.
